The Ad Libs, a pheonominal-yet-underappreciated American vocal group hailing from Hudson County, NJ, had their first and only smash hit within their first year as a group, with 'The Boy From New York City.' Though several other singles from the doo-wop group landed on the Billboard R&B chart's, The Ad Libs never released a full album. Presenting The Ad Libs is the group's debut album that never happened. A collection of singles, b-sides, and unused studio cuts come together to show the 1960's soul singers in a whole new light. The tracks were remastered for vinyl at Infrasonic Mastering. The limited edition pressing comes on purple color vinyl.

JazzFest Berlin (also known as the Berlin Jazz Festival) is a jazz festival based in Berlin, Germany. Originally called the "Berliner Jazztage" (Berlin Jazz Days, until 1980 when the name was changed), it was founded in 1964 in West Berlin by the Berliner Festspiele. Whereas famous US jazz celebrities set the tone during the first decades, the Berlin Jazz Festival increasingly has presented artists from all around the globe, with an increasing emphasis on contemporary European jazz. Also appearing that year were Herbie Mann, Carla Thomas, Don Cherry with Pharoah Sanders, Don Ellis (who makes a guest appearance here), Gary Burton, Elvin Jones, Muddy Waters with Otis Spann and numerous other jazz luminaries. The festival's artistic concept has been "to document, support, and validate trends in jazz, and to mirror the diversity of creative musical activity. On transparent purple vinyl.

Earth Rot is visionary composer/arranger/producer David Axelrod’s third album, and the last of his Capitol Trilogy. Recorded as a concept album about the decrepit state of the environment in 1970 Los Angeles, and scheduled for release on the first Earth Day, it features choral vocals and marks a departure for Axelrod’s signature sound, which would take on a jazzier feel in the 1970s.

Originally released in 1982, this is a live album, compiled from shows across the UK from 1981–82. Press the Eject features a striking version of John Cale’s “Rosegarden Funeral Of Sores”,a particularly spooky run-through of “Hollow Hills” that out-creeps the studio version on Mask, and the punk rock fuzz-out of “Dark Entries”. Of course, “Bela…” appears here as well, in a luxurious nine-and-a-half-minute version. Washed in feedback and ever-sosubtly accelerating and decelerating, this song is the true center of “Goth” mythology. This Record Store Day Black Friday release is pressed on white vinyl.

Originally released in April 1992, sandwiched between their first two albums (Pod and Last Splash), The Breeders' Safari EP cxame at a time when Kim's Pixies commitments were winding down and her new band was on the cusp of releasing a platinum-selling album. Their first record to feature Kim Deal's twin sister Kelley (and the only Breeders release with both Kelley Deal and Tanya Donnelly), the EP was recorded in two studios with the bulk coming from a session in New York, which provided an early version of "Do You Love Me Now?", "Don't Call Home" and a cover of The Who's "So Sad About Us". The title track was recorded in London by Kim, Josephine Wiggs and drummer Jon Mattock (Spiritualized/Spacemen3). This Record Store Day Black Friday release is a faithful repress of the 12" version, complete with Shinro Ohtake's 198 charcoal drawing Nairobi VIII adorning its cover.

Roy Buchanan is the guitarist’s guitar hero. Singularly uninterested in rock stardom and the trappings of fame that go with it, Buchanan never achieved the popularity of his six-string peers; yet his unfathomable technique and ferocious Telecaster tone put him near the top of any serious listing of the greatest guitarists of all time. Stories abound about the regard with which other musicians held Roy (and the indifference with which he greeted their esteem); for example, legend has it he turned down the Rolling Stones for the job Mick Taylor got, and blew off playing with John Lennon, while Jeff Beck dedicated “’Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers” from Blow by Blow to him. These days, his ability to create the sounds he did without the use of any effects, often from his patented “pinch harmonic” method of playing, continue to astound players both casual and professional. Buchanan recorded a number of commendable studio albums, but on stage was where the magic happened; that’s why most listeners deem the 1974 Live Stock album to be his best. But the tracks on that album, like most live records, were cherry-picked from several different shows, in this case both sets Roy played at New York City’s Town Hall on November 27, 1974. In fact, of the 21 songs Roy played that night, only six came out on Live Stock, and one other, a version of Neil Young’s “Down by the River,” came out on a subsequent compilation. That leaves 14 unreleased performances—and now, Real Gone Music presents Live at Town Hall 1974, a 3-LP set that captures both shows in their entirety, drawn from the original multitrack tapes recorded that night by The Record Plant Mobile Studio. Several things strike you as you listen to these two shows. First, this was a good band, perhaps Roy’s best, with Malcolm Lukens on keyboards, John Harrison on bass, Ronnie “Byrd” Foster on drums, and Billy Price on lead vocals when Roy didn’t take a turn. Second, the six tracks originally selected for Live Stock were the “safe” tracks, showing the band at their most succinct. It’s no accident that all but one came from the first show; during the second show, the band—perhaps spurred on by some refreshment during intermission—positively swaggers as Roy deals one lightning lead after another, even having fun with a faulty patch cord on the first song of the second set. For this monumental release, we’ve made every effort to put you right in the front row; both our liner note writer (Buchanan biographer Phil Carson) and photographer (Charles R. Cohen) were there that night, and have the stories and shots to prove it. Mixed and mastered by Tom Lewis at Studio 1093 in Athens, Georgia, and produced by Bill Levenson, this one’s a major addition to the Buchanan discography and further proof that nobody, but nobody, played guitar like Roy Buchanan.

By the time Sweetheart Of The Rodeo was released in 1968, The Byrds had already changed the sound of rock music twice; from jangling folk-rock to experimental acid-rock, they constantly sought to push the boundaries of what rock music could be. The 1967 departure of David Crosby left a creative void filled quickly by country music-loving Gram Parsons, whose addition led Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman and company to record an album comprised mostly of authentic country material in Nashville, with the aid of local session aces (including future Byrd Clarence White). For the first time on vinyl—and on the heels of a 50th anniversary tour of the album by original members McGuinn and Hillman—this Legacy Edition of Sweetheart Of The Rodeo showcases this country-rock masterpiece alongside 28 bonus tracks, including demos, outtakes, rehearsal versions and tracks by Parsons’ pre-Byrds outfit, The International Submarine Band.
Hot on the heels of Captured Tracks' reissue of Capital Punishment’s 1982 album Roadkill, the quartet of Kriss Roebling, Ben Stiller, Peter Zusi, and Peter Swann present This Is Capital Punishment – an EP of new material recorded almost 35 years after the group disbanded. Recorded at the Garden in Brooklyn, This Is Capital Punishment came about when Captured Tracks boss Mike Sniper asked Roebling for bonus material for the Roadkill reissue. The original members got back together and did a remake of their track "Confusion." A blistering take on the original, the new version reimagines “Confusion” as a much louder and sinister track. It was so loved by the label – and the band had so much fun recording it – that they decided to record new material. Capital Punishment burn through four other tracks that all explore the darker edges of rock ‘n’ roll. From the strangely sultry “Drumming Out Time Inside Me” and “Grey And Illuminate” to the band’s favorite “Hot Love,” Capital Punishment may not be teenage punks anymore, but they certainly haven’t lost their edge. Pressed on translucent blue vinyl, This Is Capital Punishment is limited to 1500 copies worldwide.

Cheap Trick fans positively inhaled our first batch of rarities, so we’re back with 16 more lost tracks from Rockford, Illinois’ finest! Except this time, Ken Sharp’s notes feature track-by-track commentary from Bun E. Carlos, Tom Petersson, and Rick Nielsen…this collection is a deep dive into the Cheap Trick hive mind! So let’s jump in…first up are three tracks taken from the 1980 EP Found All the Parts, including a live version of The Beatles’ “Day Tripper” with an instrumental nod to The Yardbirds’ “Shapes of Things.” Then comes the single “Oh Boy,” followed by the demo of “Loser,” which was recorded in 1980 but was written by Nielsen way back in 1976. Two live tracks, “The House Is Rockin’ (with Domestic Problems)” and “Way of the World,” from a New Year’s Eve 1979 show at the L.A. Forum raise the temperature, then come the George Martin-produced single versions of “World’s Greatest Lover” and “Everything Works If You Let It.” Two tracks, “Reach Out” and “I Must Be Dreamin’,” from the Heavy Metal soundtrack and the title song from the Spring Break soundtrack cover the Cheap Trick silver screen legacy, while the demo version of the classic “If You Want My Love” premieres on LP. The “Super New Dance Re-Mix” of “Saturday at Midnight” and “Short Version” of “Dancing the Night Away” also appear on a vinyl reissue for the first time, as does the last track, the b-side “Get Ready.” Rare photos by long-time band photographer Robert Alford accompany; the set is mastered by the great Vic Anesini at Battery Studios. Once upon a time, CKY burned it all down, with a raucous, anarchic, hard rock sound soaked in the skate-punk culture that birthed them and a hard-partying lifestyle onstage and off that decimated relationships and reputations in its wake. CKY’s sonic rebirth sounds as incendiary, expansive, and groovy. Each song is a forceful meditation on what makes CKY so killer.THis Record Store Day Black Friday EP features four new CKY recordings..
