Enne Amman was born in Ohio of Finnish ancestry. Her father was a skilled performer on the kantele, a Finnish instrument shaped something like a zither. Enne accompanied herself on the guitar. Her typical concert program consisted of English, Scottish, Irish American and Afro-American folk songs. Based in Pontiac, Michigan, she played many concerts for community and university audiences throughout the Midwest. She was managed by her husband, Peter, a noted historian. They were married for 55 years until her death in 2003.
